Excitement continues to build around the WD-40/SEMA Cares project vehicle’s introduction at the 2011 SEMA Show,
and the build is finally complete. The custom car made recent stops at
Street Scene Equipment, Lanzini Body Works and, of course, Foose Design
for the final touches.
The WD-40 brand has a new interactive webpage
to promote its partnership with legendary hot-rod designer Chip Foose.
On the site, visitors can view “Chip’s Tips,” a series of how-to online
videos that show Foose using the WD-40 multi-use product to help build,
restore and maintain vehicles.

SEMA and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) councils announced July 8, 2011, as Collector Car Appreciation Day. The date marks the second commemoration in what will become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. SEMA and its councils are now working to secure a congressional resolution to recognize the day’s significance.

Introduced at the 2010 SEMA Show
in Las Vegas, the WD-40/SEMA Cares Mustang was auctioned off for
$100,000 at the 40th annual Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Show and Auction in
Scottsdale, Arizona, on Saturday, January 22, to benefit the Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp children’s charities.
"We had never donated in the past; I guess we’re picking up where
someone else left off," said Robert Donato, president of SICE USA, Ltd. Recently, Donato's company made an incredibly
generous donation to the SEMA Cares foundation, contributing a Teco
28TI/UPH/BPS/PO tire changer valued at more than $10,500 for an eBay auction. Shipped
direct from Italy and prominently displayed at the 2010 SEMA Show, the
machine included a pneumatic bead assistant to handle tough tire/wheel
combinations, including low-profile and run-flat applications.
The WD-40/SEMA Cares Mustang introduction at the 2010 SEMA Show
in Las Vegas was a success. Parked in front of a life-size banner that
simulated a live Barrett-Jackson auction, the vehicle was a hit with
its mean road race-themed body kit and bright yellow paint. The deal
has also been sweetened for the vehicle’s next owner—the highest bidder
at the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Show and Auction January 17–23, 2011, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
