A Nat Danas Scholarship, to be presented annually to students pursuing
or advancing a career in the auto trim and restyling industry, has been
established as part of the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund
with an endowment of $58,000. The announcement was made by the Nat
Danas Scholarship Committee at the SEMA Industry Awards Banquet, held
during the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Here’s a different spin on the project-car theme: eBay, in association
with Source Interlink Media (SIM), has partnered with four garages to
build four distinctly different vehicles. As the four are being
completed, they are being voted on by visitors to a build-specific
website (www.builtfromebay.com), where they will ultimately choose their favorite.
The SEMA Scholarship Committee has announced that it will once again be auctioning an engine on eBay in conjunction with the 2012 SEMA Show to benefit the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF).
For this year’s SEMA Show,
Ford Motor Co. and SEMA have teamed up on a unique project: the SEMA
Mustang Build Powered by Women. Under the direction of the SEMA Businesswomen’s Network (SBN)
and built entirely by SBN members, the project is designed to shine the
light on women working in the automotive aftermarket and encourage more
women to pursue careers in the industry.
The all-female build team is now finalized for the SEMA Mustang Build
Powered by Women. Starting in July at Source Interlink Media’s Southern
California headquarters, the team of technicians, enthusiasts and
industry personnel will work together to customize the ’13 Ford Mustang
GT donated by Ford Motor Co.—the title sponsor of the project.
Dedicated to fostering the next generation of automotive aftermarket
industry leaders and innovators, the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund
awarded a total of $130,000 to 69 scholarship recipients for 2012, and
$15,000 was awarded to 15 loan-forgiveness recipients. Over the life of
the fund, $1.5 million has gone to 1,000 deserving students since it was
started in 1984.

April 6, 2012, is the deadline to apply for an automotive scholarship
through
the 2012 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF). The scholarship
application requires college transcripts and letters of recommendation
and is now available at www.sema.org/scholarships.
