Canada, Nova Scotia Premier Darrell E. Dexter issued a proclamation
designating July 2013 as “Automotive Heritage Month” in the province.
Collector Car Appreciation Day will be here sooner than you think! The SEMA Action Network (SAN) is maintaining and publicizing a list of scheduled events to commemorate America’s time-tested love affair with the automobile.
SEMA and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA)
councils announced that the next Collector Car Appreciation Day will
be celebrated July 12, 2013.
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and the Las Vegas City Council issued
a proclamation declaring “Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the city.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 452 at
SEMA’s request to acknowledge the day’s significance in raising
awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays
in American society.
At the request of organizers of Northwest Motorfest, Idaho Governor
Butch Otter issued a proclamation designating July 13, 2012, as
“Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the state. Idaho joins West
Virginia, New Mexico, New York and Hawaii as states that have officially
recognized the celebration.
Prior to the adjournment of the New York State Legislature, the State
Assembly issued a resolution memorializing Governor Andrew Cuomo to
proclaim July 13, 2012 as Collector Car Appreciation Day in the state.
However, the legislature failed to complete action on a series of other
bills that would have had an impact, both positive and negative, on the
automotive hobby.
Thanks to the efforts of Assemblyman Bill Reilich, the New York State
Assembly issued a resolution memorializing Governor Andrew Cuomo to
proclaim July 13, 2012, as Collector Car Appreciation Day in the
state. In West Virginia, at the request of Delegate Gary Howell,
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin issued a proclamation also designating July
13, 2012, as Collector Car Appreciation Day.
A rich fabric has been woven into our experience as Americans by the
automotive hobby and the traditions that guide it. Although the variety
of shapes, styles and ages of our prized collector cars is incredibly
diverse, sharing our affinity for unique vehicles can create or even
strengthen a common lifelong bond between family and friends.
More than 70 SEMA members met with their U.S. Representatives and
Senators as part of the May 9 Washington Rally, providing a valuable
opportunity to urge members of Congress to pursue a pro-growth
manufacturing and job creation agenda.
