An often-overlooked resource for SEMA members seeking new overseas
markets for their products are export management companies (EMCs). A
growing number of SEMA members are already selling their products
directly overseas, many with great success. But even a larger number
are not fully tapping their export potential.
SEMA has created a unique program to assist members in exploring their
products’ sales potential in China at the upcoming SEMA China CIAPE China Business Development Conference, September 7–10, in Beijing.
Vehicle sales in China are growing across the board, but the luxury and
SUV segments are increasing at the fastest rate, propelled by rising
incomes and a wave of second-car buyers with a desire for something
more upscale. That’s just one trend that bodes well for SEMA members
eyeing the China market for future sales.
Registration is now open for the second SEMA CIAPE China Business
Development Conference, which will be held September 7–10, in Beijing,
China. Participants will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with
top Chinese buyers, participate in networking events and tour the
trade-only China International Auto Parts Expo (CIAPE). This affordable
turnkey, SEMA-member manufacturers-only package includes a
professional interpreter, meals and hotel accommodations.
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has backed down from the
Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA)-opposed ''Cash
for Clunkers" program, which would have provided Australians with a
$2,000 payment (USD $1,993) for trading in pre-’95 cars for new
vehicles.
Car ownership in China is growing, and just like auto enthusiasts
everywhere, Chinese drivers like to make their cars stand out. From
expensive sports cars to off-road warriors, customization is
increasingly popular among a wide segment of consumers in China.

Twenty-one SEMA members just returned from Beijing where they
participated in the inaugural SEMA CIAPE China Business Development
Conference. Each SEMA member participated in pre-scheduled one-on-one
meetings with Chinese distributors and retailers from throughout China.
