Spy Shots: Turbo, Twin-Clutch Volvo S60 Aims to Make Nearly 50 MPG

Brenda Priddy's photographers caught a perfectly clean and production-ready Volvo S60, apparently during a photo shoot, before it disappeared under a car cover.

When Volvo's sleek S60 reaches the dealerships, it will – except for the so-called suicide doors – very closely resemble the stunning concept shown at the 2009 North America International Auto Show, Priddy says.

"With a coupe-like roofline, the new S60 will add sex appeal to the once boxy and somewhat boring Volvo lineup," she adds.

The S60 will eventually be offered with a high-efficiency gasoline turbocharged direct injection 1.6-liter engine mated to a twin-clutch transmission – with an estimated-combined 47MPG. In addition, Volvo has said to expect new technology – including a collision warning system with full auto braking and pedestrian detection.

Priddy estimates an official debut in the first quarter of 2010.
