Building on the GT350 and GT350R, the Ford Mustang GT500 is expected to be the next step in battling the likes of the Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat in the hyper-musclecar stakes. The lack of a large wing on the back suggests new aerodynamic techniques may be employed on the GT500.
The GT500 will get styling modifications from the ’18 Mustang revisions. A heavy-duty transmission will be standard, although it may be a new dual-clutch setup. The nature of the engine is also unclear, with rumors circling about the use of a 3.5L Ecoboost V6 from the Ford GT supercar, or an uprated 5.8L V8. But it’s likely the GT500 will produce at least as much as the ZL1, or possibly more than the 707hp Hellcat.
Expect to see a GT500, and a few other Mustangs, next year.
