There’s a reason why the tire and wheel section remains one of the largest display areas of the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Those who have attended the SEMA Show are likely aware of SEMA’s collaborative relationship with the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). SEMA’s partnership with CU-ICAR is now in its fifth year. It’s been a great partnership that yields useful tools to help SEMA members cope with vehicle technology and advance their products. Clemson has state-of-the-art equipment and top engineering talent to stay abreast of the newest automotive technologies. By connecting CU-ICAR and its graduate-level students and professors with the aftermarket, SEMA is shaping world-class research into practical tools for our member companies.
One example is the just-released “Ride Guide,” a publication that puts more science into the matter of wheel/tire performance and selection. With support from SEMA and the Wheel & Tire Council (WTC), CU-ICAR recently conducted months of testing to determine the performance differences of varying wheel and tire combinations.
Clayton Drescher is the latest addition to SEMA’s council staff. As senior manager of councils, he works closely with the volunteer council leadership on a variety of projects and initiatives—all designed to help members learn and network while promoting their market segment.

networking lunch—featuring presetations by SEMA President Chris Kersting and SEMA Vice President of Technology John Waraniak—Wednesday, February 27, at SEMA Headquarters in
Diamond Bar, California.
On Monday, October 29, the Wheel and Tire Council (WTC) will present two sessions focused on improving your business. According to Kelly Austin, WTC education chair, “WTC’s focus in delivering educational content is to be timely, relevant and meaningful." In response to the membership's desire to address issues, such as marketing, emerging trends, TPMS and tire safety, the WTC will host two sessions Monday, October 29, from 2:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall room S227.
