On October 1, 2008, the Chinese national government approved the legal installation and marketing of 506 automotive parts and accessories. The list of deregulated products is extensive, covering exterior and body accessories from body decals to spoilers, and interior accessories from cup holders to window shades. It includes emissions products, electrical and electronic products, drivetrain and brake products. The list also covers publications and car-care products. “This is a major milestone in what has been an ongoing process to develop the automotive specialty-equipment market in China,” said Li Rengui, chairman of the China International Auto Parts Expo (CIAPE). CIAPE is a co-sponsor along with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce of the upcoming SEMA CIAPE China Business Development Conference. CIAPE was instrumental in championing the changes endorsed by the relevant government ministries, including Ministry of Commerce, the National Development & Reform Commission and the Ministry of Public Security.
