New Parts for Old Iron From the 2019 SEMA Show New Products Showcase
As the automotive aftermarket has gradually adopted digital technologies, so too has the hot-rod aftermarket. Vintage sheetmetal nowadays may house OBD-II-spec engines and drivetrains, 3-D-printed accessories, aftermarket advanced driver-assistance systems and even Bluetooth connectivity. Whatever technologies builders leverage to craft their projects, however, a constantly evolving hot-rod aftermarket can meet their particular needs. What follows is a survey of related products from the New Products Showcase at the 2019 SEMA Show, along with some insights from a number of industry leaders.

You have to be able to have a strong e-commerce site that educates the customer. It seems that is where the research and competitive comparisons happen. It used to be the big shows, and you had to be there in person with a strong showing of your product line. Today, it is more and more online. To get the customer to your website, you need a strong marketing and social-media plan. Companies must also have the right part at the right price and in stock.” |

But longer term, and as has been the case for a while, it’s keeping younger generations passionate about our hobby. My outlook on the segment going forward is actually optimistic.”— |

Why is that exactly? Can one speculate that people are wanting more traditional looks because of growing restomod interests? I don’t think this is a sign for the end of hot-rodding. I just think trends go in cycles. |
