Volkswagen XL1When It Hits: According to VW, the XL1 will be capable of achieving a combined fuel consumption of approximately 1 liter (.26 gallons) per 62 miles—or 235 mpg—when it hits the road in 2013. What Priddy Says: The XL1 was the third iteration of the Volkswagen 1L car, first shown in concept guise at the 2011 Qatar Motor Show. The XL1 uses a two-cylinder turbodiesel and an electric motor that pitches to work in parallel with the diesel or drives the car independent of it. |
Chevrolet SparkWhen It Hits: The best guess for an on-sale date is early 2013, with a model-year designation of 2014. What Priddy Says: The ultra-clean Spark seen here has a new front fascia, which includes a new grille and freshened fog lamps, and it sports a charging port in front of the driver’s door. |

BMW 1-SeriesWhen It Hits: Look for an official introduction later this year. What Priddy Says: The Priddy team had previously spotted only five-door variants of the next-generation 1-Series in prototype form. But both body styles reveal the 1-Series’ sleeker, more extended look. Expect the powerplants to be similar to those found in the current 135i coupes and cabrio. |
Audi R8When It Hits: The Audi R8 makes its official debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year. What Priddy Says: The exterior modifications will be limited to new LED headlights, a slightly revised grille and new taillights, with different positions of the LEDs. The R8 will continue to be powered by the V8 and V10 engines; however, a direct shift gearbox (DSG) will replace the sequential gearbox.
