SEMA News—August 2011

Toyota FT-86

Ford Escape
An official release date for the ’13 Mustang GT500 has not been announced

When It Hits: The Toyota and Scion versions of this car should debut toward the end of 2011.

What Priddy Says: While it’s toned down from the concept car featured at the New York Auto Show, the FT-86 coupe is looking to be noticed, sporting aggressive bodywork on the front clip, side skirts, a lower rear fascia at the rear and the massive rear wing.

When It Hits: This new CUV will launch very late in 2011 or Q1 of 2012, according to Priddy. That could make this a ’12 or ’13 model-year vehicle, but nothing is official so far.

What Priddy Says: The features that jump out are the pushbutton start, driver/passenger heated seat controls, button for voice-activated commands and “+/-” button on the shifter to change gears. The team said the overall size of this Escape does not differ much from the current model.

Chevrolet Sonic MPV

Dodge FIAT Compact

When It Hits: Watch for production to start in Q3 of 2012.

What Priddy Says: This ’13 Chevy Sonic MPV will ride on the same Gamma II chassis as the Chevy Sonic sedan and hatchback, and the overall size will be larger than the sedan but smaller than the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4. While not confirmed, a 1.4L turbocharged inline four-cylinder coupled with a six-speed automatic should provide motivation for the mini-utility.

When It Hits: The new Dodge compact vehicles is due sometime in the middle of 2012.

What Priddy Says: This FIAT-based Dodge sedan rides on FIAT’s C-Evo architecture, with the Dodge grille replacing Alfa’s signature front end. The code names “PM” and “PF” lead to speculation that this sedan will replace the Caliber for Dodge and be an all-new entry for the Chrysler badge.
