Racer Lyn St. James Introduces the Motorsports Industry to the Hagerty Education Program at America’s Car Museum

Automotive restoration and preservation education is entering the motorsports realm, thanks to record-breaking racer Lyn St. James, who was named an ambassador of the Hagerty Education Program (HEP) at America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington. HEP—a program dedicated to preparing young adults for careers in automotive restoration—supports hands-on, career-based training for students in the United States and Canada. HEP is a program of America's Car Museum.

St. James has joined the team to increase the program's visibility. As a HEP ambassador, St. James will connect the program with motorsports influencers to increase awareness and funding. Her service will help provide students and programs with grants and apprenticeships to launch successful careers in the automotive restoration and preservation industry.

Support for HEP comes through various methods, including corporate sponsorships, partnerships with colleges and universities and fundraising events at America’s Car Museum. With St. James’ connections to vintage racing enthusiasts and motorsports movers and shakers, HEP National Director Diane Fitzgerald plans to get the program in front of a larger audience.

Third Annual WELD Racing Go-Kart Spectacular Set at 2015 Knoxville Nationals

WELD Racing has announced its sponsorship of the third-annual WELD Racing Go-Kart Spectacular at the 2015 FVP Knoxville (Iowa) Nationals, August 12, 2015. The event is held in conjunction with the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, which also supports the fourth-annual Tony Stewart Kick-it Cup to be held that week. To honor Jeff Gordon's racing career, which included winged and non-winged sprints from 1985 to 1990, the week's events will be old-school with a reference to the ’80s.

Events begin at Slideways Karting Center in Knoxville on August 12, with an all-star lineup of NASCAR and former sprint car drivers racing their biggest fans. NASCAR champions Gordon and Stewart, as well as 17-time Sprint Cup winner Kasey Kahne and Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year Kyle Larson, will race against 50 race fans in Slideways' fastest winged karts. The 50 spots available for race fans, at $400 per person, sold out in less than two hours. Fans can still attend the event and get more information. All proceeds from the week's Kick-It events will go to Kick-It, a program and partner of the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation, which raises money for pediatric cancer research.
