Specialty-parts suppliers, such as Wilwood, came out to American Honda headquarters in Torrance, California, last week to measure the ’12 Honda Civic Si.

The completely redesigned ’12 Honda Civic Si coupe and sedan were on display May 18 during SEMA’s measuring session at American Honda headquarters in Torrance, California, drawing a total of 36 specialty-parts suppliers. These sessions provide hands-on access to new vehicles in order to gather surface data in preparation for designing, developing and manufacturing aftermarket parts and accessories.

More powerful than the 2.0L engine in the previous-generation Civic Si, the new 2.4L, four-cylinder engine produces 201 hp at 7,000 rpm and 170 lb.-ft. torque at 4,400 rpm—an improvement of 4 hp and 31 lb.-ft. of torque compared to the previous model. A sport-oriented six-speed manual is the only transmission available. The EPA-estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy rating of 22/31/25 mpg is 1 mpg higher in the city and 2 mpg higher on the highway compared to the ’11 model.

“The ’12 Civic measuring was very beneficial in gathering information on what we can expect from Honda on this new platform and check current Wilwood kit availability to the new car,” said Wilwood’s Michael Hamrick. “We look forward to offering products to this new family of Honda vehicles. From the turnout of manufacturers that joined us for the day, we all look to benefit from these measuring sessions SEMA offers us.”

Both Civic Si models include an AM/FM/CD premium audio system with 360 watts of power and seven speakers, including a pair of front tweeters and an 8-in. subwoofer located in the rear-window shelf. The system includes WMA/MP3 audio-file reading capability, on-screen CD and album information, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, speed-sensitive volume control, XM Radio capability, an auxiliary input jack, a USB audio interface for compatible devices and Bluetooth audio streaming. An available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System has a 6.5-in. display and 16 GB of flash memory in place of the DVD-based system used in the previous generation.

"As a manufacturer of aftermarket entertainment systems—including in-dash radios and flip-down screens with built-in DVD players—we measured the OEM radio, headrest post dimensions and leather and fabric applications," said Myron & Davis' Ysmael Esparza. "The ’12 Honda Civic measuring session helped us to search for new options."
