Industry Veteran John Stewart Joins SEMA as Editorial Director

John Stewart has joined SEMA as editorial director. In this role, he will supervise the monthly SEMA News magazine, the Show publications and SEMA eNews. His responsibilities include managing the SEMA News staff and collaborating with SEMA executive staff to promote and effectively communicate the association's news with members, while also serving as a voice for SEMA-member companies.

“We are extremely pleased to have John join us at SEMA,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. “His background and experience will help us continue developing the SEMA News organization so that it benefits members to the maximum extent.”

Stewart comes to SEMA as a 40-year veteran of the publishing industry. He has experience at magazines in a wide variety of categories, including street performance, import performance, new car and truck, diesel, off-road and motorsports.

As an automotive writer, his work has appeared in dozens of magazines and, more recently, on websites such as Motortrend.com, Popularmechanics.com, Pickuptrucks.com and Newcartestdrive.com.

As a publisher and editorial director, he helped launch consumer magazines, such as Diesel World and Honda Tuning.

At Primedia Inc., Stewart was vice president, group publisher of truck group magazines, such as Four Wheeler, and import group titles, including Sport Compact Car, and Import Tuner.

Most recently, he supervised the marketing department at Gale Banks Engineering, where he helped devise and implement an Internet-based marketing and communications strategy.

Prior experience in trade magazines includes two years as editor-in-chief of Off-Road Industry magazine.
