Brenda Priddy's team of spy shooters caught these pictures of fire meeting ice as the 550-plus hp Camaro Z/28 conducts a late-season cold-weather test run.
With the front-end camouflage removed from this Z/28, the team grabbed some clear shots of the grille and the new lower fascia. They also provide us with an unobstructed look at the exceptionally long chin spoiler. Priddy says that this prototype is sporting the production hood, and there's no doubt an aggressive-looking scoop is hiding under that big bump in the camo. However, Priddy is not sure if those silver hood-pins are production or just a quick fix for the prototype.
With the remaining camo pulled over the front tightly, a new set of inlets on either end of the bumper can also be seen. And Priddy's team was told that the Z/28 front end will be close to the Transformers Camaro GM shown at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show.
A set of 20-inch wheels, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires, appear to be the order of the day for the Z/28, and the brakes appear to be the same ones found on the Cadillac CTSv, according to Priddy.
The exhaust note coming from the Z/28 was described by Priddy's shooter as "nothing short of unholy!" There are also subtle changes to the rocker panels as well as the lower-rear fascia. While the photos don't show it, the shooter also noticed a few pieces of body-colored tape across the trunk lid on this prototype. Priddy believes the tape was covering the fastener points for a rear spoiler.
Under the hood of the Z/28 lies the "LSA" 6.2L, supercharged V8 from the Cadillac CTSv.
Priddy says to look for the 2012 Camaro Z/28 to go on sale in Q1 or Q2 of 2011.
