Racing News: Second Class Hall of Fame Selections Announced

SECOND CLASS: David Pearson, Lee Petty, Bobby Allison, Ned Jarrett and Bud Moore have been selected as the second class to enter the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina.

DIRT TRACK KING: Earl Pearson, Jr. pocketed $50,000 for winning the 30th Dirt Track World Championship dirt-late-model event at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, West Virginia, Saturday night.

NEW FUEL: NASCAR’s three national touring series will use a 15%-ethanol-blend fuel beginning at Daytona International Speedway in February.

WELCOME TO RUSSIA: The Formula One World Championship will make its first trip to Russia in 2014. Officials and Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone have agreed to a seven-year contract.

CROWING MOMENT:
Jerry Coons Jr. won the USAC Silver Crown Series season finale, the Rollie Beale 150 Saturday at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway, but it was Levi Jones who edged Bud Kaeding by two points to win the USAC Silver Crown Series title.

PROMOTED:
Herb Branham, who joined NASCAR in 2001, has been named Gram Am Road Racing Series’ managing director of communications. He was formerly NASCAR’s director of Written Communications.

RETURNING:
The Grand Am Rolex Series will return to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, during the 2011 season.

STRAIGHT SHOT: Chase Elliott, the 14-year-old son of former NASCAR champion Bill Elliott, won the 39th running of the Winchester 400 late-model race at Winchester (Indiana) Speedway Saturday afternoon.

DIED: Jeff Byrd, Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway president and general manager, died Sunday following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 60.
