THE CHAMP AGAIN: Dario Franchitti edged Will Power by five points to win his second-straight and third overall IZOD IndyCar Series championship Saturday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida.
SPONSORLESS: 7-Eleven will not return to sponsor Tony Kanaan and his Andretti Autosport team in the IZOD IndyCar Series next year. Kanaan will be allowed to look for a ride with other teams until a new sponsor is found.
STREAK OVER: Sammy Swindell put an end to the Pennsylvania Posse’s nine-race winning streak against the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove Speedway Saturday night by winning the Morgan Hughes National Open and the $50,000 paycheck that goes with it.
BACKING: Graham Rahal has landed a sponsorship from the TBC Retail Group for the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season. Now all he needs is a team to drive for.
FRENCH CONNECTION: The French factory Peugeot 908 turbo diesels dominated the American Le Mans Series Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta Saturday, with Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy claiming the overall victory.
NEW CHASSIS: Riley Technologies will build a new prototype chassis for use in the American Le Mans Series next year.
SWEEP SUCCESS: Darren Hagen (USAC Mopar National Midget Series Gold Crown Midget Nationals) and Billy Moyer (Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals) completed impressive three-day sweeps last weekend. Hagen pocketed $18,000 for his three-day sweep while Moyer earned $54,000 for his weekend sweep. It was Moyer’s 22nd, 23rd and 24th feature victories of the season.
SWITCHING TEAMS: Trevor Bayne has departed Diamond-Waltrip Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and joined Roush Fenway Racing.
WELCOME BACK: The NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, featuring the top drivers from NASCAR’s developmental ranks, will return to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in California January 28–29, 2011.
RETURN: The Grand Am Rolex Series will return to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, next season for the first time since 2001.
