Racing News: United States Grand Prix to Return in 2012 to Austin, Texas

HISTORY: Dario Franchitti drove to his second Indianapolis 500 victory Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, making car owner Chip Ganassi the first car owner to win the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 in the same season.

BACK TO THE USA: Formula One officials announced a 10-year agreement last week that will see the return of the United States Grand Prix in 2012 to a new track to be constructed in Austin, Texas.

GONE TOO SOON: Jesse “The Rocket” Hockett, a sprint-car driver from Missouri, was killed May 26 in an accident while preparing his equipment for the Memorial Day racing weekend. He was 26.

DEUCES WILD: Kurt Busch completed a sweep of the events at Charlotte Motor Speedway Sunday by winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600. He is now the seventh driver to win the Sprint All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same year.

SHOW-ME STATE KING:
Ray Cook won his second DART Show-Me 100 Saturday, sanctioned for the first time by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association. The event was held for the first time at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

NINE IT IS: Eric Gordon collected his ninth wingless sprint-car Pay Less Little 500 victory Saturday night at Anderson (Indiana) Speedway.

HOOSIER HERO: Shane Hmiel drove to his first victory on dirt at the Indiana State Fairgrounds during the USAC K&N Silver Crown Series Hoosier Hundred.

YOUNG GUN: Tanner Swanson scored his first USAC Mopar National Midget Series victory Saturday night during the 65th NOS Energy Drink Night Before the 500 at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont, Indiana.

FUELED TO FINISH: Sunoco has signed a multi-year agreement to be the official fuel retailer and convenience store of the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights.
