Racing News: Superbowl Bumps Daytona 500 Qualifying to Saturday

DAYTONA TRIPLE: Because the Super Bowl falls on Sunday, February 7, Daytona International Speedway has announced plans to hold qualifying for the Daytona 500, the ARCA Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 and the Budweiser Shootout for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series all on the same day—February 6.

DIED: Stew Reamer, founder of Racing Promotion Monthly and the RPM Workshops for race track promoters, died over the weekend.

NEW DATES: The IRL IndyCar Series announced a September 4 date for next year’s race at the Kentucky Speedway, and the scheduled event at Texas Motor Speedway has been moved ahead one week to June 5. The race at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi will be moved to September 19.

FULL-TIME RIDE: Alex Tagliani has formed a partnership with Azzi Racing, ATG and Rubicon Sports to form FAAZT Race Team which will contest the full IndyCar Series schedule in 2010.

OH, CANADA: A tentative Formula One schedule for 2010 has been released, and the Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled to return to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 6. There is no event in the United States.

WHAT’S UP WITH MILWAUKEE: Having held auto racing since 1903, it appears quite possible that there will be no racing at The Milwaukee Mile next season. However, a new promotional group is hopeful it can bring events back to the historic one-mile oval. Read about it in the September 2 issue of National Speed Sport News.

TO THE TOP: IRL IndyCar Series point leader Ryan Briscoe earned his third victory of the season at Chicagoland Speedway and jumped to the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
