Racing News: IRL, NASCAR Futures in Doubt at The Milwaukee Mile

FINANCIAL TROUBLE: It appears that Wisconsin Motorsports, promoters of racing events at The Milwaukee Mile, still owes the Indy Racing League for sanctioning fees from its event in late May and NASCAR for Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series events at the historic fairgrounds oval June 19–20. As a result, the future of racing for both sanctioning organizations at the track is in doubt.

BRAZIL NEARS: IRL IndyCar Series officials are close to inking an agreement with APEX Brazil that would take the series to the South American country for at least one, and possibly two, events in 2010.

NOT CLEVELAND: The IRL may be eyeing Brazil and China for future events, but the resurrection of the Grand Prix of Cleveland will not happen until at least 2011 as IRL and city officials have not been able to reach an agreement for 2010. The GP ran at Burke Lakefront Airport concluded a 26-year run under CART/Champ Car sanction in 2007.

OHIO KING: Pennsylvania sprint-car driver Stevie Smith earned the Ohio Speedweek point title after winning twice in six races.

PULLING OUT: Advance Auto Parts has ended its 10-year sponsorship relationship with the Super DIRTcar series, featuring Northeast modifieds and drivers the likes of Brett Hearn, Billy Decker and Danny Johnson.

STILL ON TOP: Formula One point-leader Jenson Button remains atop the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings, which rates drivers from all auto-racing disciplines. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
