Member Spotlight: Goodguys Rod & Custom Association

The SEMA Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) has named Goodguys Rod & Custom Association as the council's newest member spotlight company. Get to know the story of their business in the SEMA News interview below.

SEMA News: As a 30-year HRIA member company, what keeps you involved?
Goodguys: We see ourselves as a legacy company in our industry, and we believe it's our duty to support it in every way we can. Goodguys provides a platform where consumers and businesses can come together and have fun, and we don't want to miss out on that.

SEMA News: What changes have you seen in the company/industry since you first started?
Goodguys: The biggest change has been in the technology we use to market and connect with our vendors and customers. We've also seen smaller businesses being absorbed by larger companies, making it harder to help our partners sell their products. One of our main challenges now is appealing to younger consumers while still maintaining our older customer base, as they are the primary buyers. We need to find a balance not only for the shows but for our vendors as well. On a positive note, there has been a significant increase in talent within the industry, from builders to engineers and various services, making our industry better each year.

SEMA News: What advice would you give a new hot-rod company starting out in the industry?
Goodguys: Participate actively, regardless of the outcome. Companies should get involved at any level they can, from local community car shows to larger industry events. Have fun and don't focus solely on ROI for everything; engaging with your customers is just as important as selling products.

SEMA News: What advice would you give your younger self starting out?
Goodguys: I would advise myself to put myself out there sooner and work harder to learn about the community from the inside out. Initially, I felt a bit intimidated, which I shouldn't have. I would have spent more time in the builder community early on, getting to know the people and the industry on a deeper level.
